Od 1991 r. profesor nadzwyczajny II Kliniki Chirurgii Uniwersytetu Wiedeńskiego, od 1993 r. profesor nadzwyczajny Kliniki Kardio-Torakochirurgii. Od 2003 r. zatrudniony na stanowisku profesora zwyczajnego. Pracował w wielu renomowanych klinikach europejskich na oddziałach torakochirurgicznych: Uniwersytetu w Zurichu, Heidelberg-Rohrbach, Bochum, Kopenhadze, IV Klinice Chirurgii Uniwersytetu im. Karola w Pradze, Uniwersytetu Semmelweisa w Budapeszcie. Jest współzałożycielem i wykładowcą Europejskiej Podyplomowej Szkoły Kardio-Torakochirurgów w Bergamo (Włochy), w ramach której kształci się wielu adeptów kardio- o torakochirurgii, m.in. Z Polski. Jest członkiem i działaczem wielu prestiżowych towarzystw chirurgicznych, m.in.: International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, European Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. Otrzymał prestiżowych nagrody: najlepsza praca prezentowana na Dutch/German Transplant Meeting Maastricht (1992), Glaxo-Pulmologica Award Austrian Pulmological Society (1993), Theodor Billroth Award Austrian Surgical Society (1996). Wniósł wybitne zasługi w europejską i polską transplantologię. Dzięki jego osobistemu zaangażowaniu możliwe było nieodpłatne leczenie pacjentów, w tym dzieci z Polski. W wiedeńskiej klinice kształciło się wielu polskich specjalistów kardio- i torakochirurgów. Również dzięki jego pomocy możliwa jest polsko-austriacka współpraca w zakresie pobrań narządów. Jest członkiem komosji redaktorskich czasopism m.in.: 'Transplantation Proceedings', 'Zeitschrift fuer Herz Thorax u. Gefaesschrurgie', 'Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery'. Jest autorem i współautorem blisko 220 prac naukowych. (Polish) Description in another language: He works at the Department of Thoracic Surgery of the Medical University in Vienna. He graduated in 1978. From 1991 the associate professor at the Second Surgery Clinic at the University of Vienna and from 1993 the associate professor at the Department of Thoracic Surgery. From 2003 he works as a full professor. He worked in many renowned European clinics, for example in Zurich, Heidelberg-Rohrbach, Bochum, Copenhagen, at the IV Surgery Clinic at the Charles University in Prague, Semmelweis University in Budapest. He is the co-founder and lecturer of the European Postgraduate School of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery in Bergamo (Italy). A member and an activist of many renowned surgical societies, for example the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation and European Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. He was awarded with many prestigious prizes, for example for the best work presented at the Dutch/German Transplant Meeting Maastricht (1992), Glaxo-Pulmologica Award Austrian Pulmological Society (1993), Theodor Billroth Award Austrian Surgical Society (1996). He is one of the biggest authorities in the European and Polish transplantology. Thanks to his personal involvement physicians were able to examine children free of charge, including those from Poland. In his Vienna Clinic lots of Polish specialists were able to study in the cardio-thoracic surgery field. He was also the initiator of the Polish-Austrian cooperation in the organ donation field. He is a member of the editorial committees of many scientific journals, for example the 'Transplantation Proceedings', 'Zeitschrift fuer Herz Thorax u. Gefaesschrurgie', 'Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery'. He is the author and co-author of more that 220 scientific papers. (English)
